newbie to Roku3

I'm trying to get my monthly Comcast bill as low as possible. I've tried to stream channels with the Roku3 and the on-screen prompt states "this channel is available through your cable TV provider".

Our Internet is via Comcast so is our tv. Can I cancel the tv part of Comcast and still stream tv with the Roku3? Or, should I just subscribe to Comcast most basic tv. If I do the latter am I limited to the channels with that basic tv subscription? Comcast customer service is no help.

Any threads or links would be appreciated too as well as information on streaming through a tablet. Thanks!

many mainstream network channels on the 3rd party STB's require an ongoing cable/satellite subscription

Just how it is... not happy here either.
