No changes, but no longer can see Thecus N4100PRO

Hi, I set up my Thecus N4100PRO (v5.02.02) myself, but my knowledge of this is pretty low.

Problem: Windows 7 does not see and cannot access NAS since last week. Directly wired repeater does not list it in LAN client list (I assume it would if it saw it; wireless clients are all showing up in WAN list). NAS cannot connect to internet to download modules. BUT - I can access the admin page for the NAS from Opera on this computer and make changes. Everything is looking normal from there. I can also download NAS files individually from the "WebDisk" browser interface. So obviously router is talking to NAS somehow.

My setup: (modem) -> (house router) -> (wired personal Router as a repeater) -> (wired Thecus, wireless computer/phone/printer).

Only possible changes I can think of: I haven't touched the interface in 6 months, but 1. we have maybe semi-monthly power outages and I do not have a UPS yet (RAID says everything is fine, nothing of note in log except NTP server could not connect - nor could it connect to internet to download modules), and 2. a trustworthy friend's computer recently connected to repeater for the first time.

Actions Taken: Restarted router, restarted nas, reseated all cat6 connections, successfully upgraded nas to latest firmware from v2 to v5.02.02 (this was not expected to fix anything, but wanted to do it anyway), updated/restarted Windows, tried pinging various IPs listed below from router but all failed except for the repeater's own IP.

Theories: Power outage/surge affected one of the CAT6 cables? I don't think it's the first because I can access the admin page. Windows 7 is being a betch? But that doesn't explain it not showing up in repeater client list, nor it being unable to download internet modules. Covert Windows 7 update? Perhaps, but shows last installed update was 12/27. No clue!

First, get the NAS on a UPS, right now. You are asking for trouble otherwise. RAID will not save you and you should not rely on it for backup.

Why do you have the second LAN subnet (192.168.2.X). A repeater should bridge the main network, not create a new one.

I'd move the NAS to the main wired LAN, too.

Thanks for the fast reply. I have one on order - actually I didn't realize the NAS was not working for so long because I thought I had turned it off; I've been keeping it that way until it arrives.

I can't touch the main wired LAN...there's a cable from it in my room but I need it for the repeater since the wireless signal is too flaky otherwise. This configuration has worked fine for 2 years.

I don't know what the LAN2 is, or if it's even active. But again, I haven't touched the config other than the firmware upgrade, but that was after it stopped working and I had tried the things mentioned. Here's what I'm talking about: http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/album.php?albumid=19&pictureid=37

Thanks

Update: I just tried deleting both those values, and earlier I had tried to change it to different values, and both times it gave me an error and said: "other Network Interface Device in the same segment"

Start with your basics: See if you can ping the NAS. Then see if you can access it using the UNC, i.e. \\NAS ip address

Win 7 has a lot of things that can get in the way. Could be the network type got changed from Home/Private to Public. That would disable File and Printer sharing. Could also be Windows Firewall is blocking traffic.

Well I tried pinging, UNC, disabling firewalls, and messing around with filesharing and homegroup settings, no luck. BUT I successfully accessed it on a friend's computer which proved it was settings in Win 7 that were messed up.

This wasn't an ideal choice since I'd installed a lot of new hardware in the last month, but system restore fixed the problem.

Thank you for helping me solve this issue!
