Hi, aside from my plans to get a new network switch (which is better addressed in the other thread), I am also curious as to why I am not getting any speed increases even when using an Ethernet crossover connection.
This connection is done from an OpenMediaVault rig that is using an Intel dual NIC card to an ESXi host (the Windows 7 VM to be exact) that is using an Intel single NIC card. Both of them are also connected to the switch.
When I used my laptop to open VMSphere to control the Windows 7 VM to copy and receive files from the OpenMediaVault's Samba shares, I am getting only at most 40 MB/s. Without the crossover connection, I am getting around 40 to 60 MB/s.
Strangely, if I connect either the OpenMediaVault rig or the ESXi host to my laptop and conduct similar tests, I would get at least 120 MB/s, sometimes even reaching 150 MB/s! But this setup also meant that my laptop will not get Internet.
May I know if I have done the connection wrongly... or am I misunderstanding how an Ethernet crossover connection should work?
Thanks!
