Is it possible to compile node.js for the RT N66U?

yes and no. Recent versions, no.

Ancient versions yes. But then you only have enough RAM for extremely simple scripts.

Any idea how to get asuswrt-merlin "sdk"?

From this link, there's instructions on how to build it for OpenWRT, and it needs some sort of sdk

MIPS toolchain is inside root "toolchain" directory of asuswrt-merlin github. That's what you need.

I won't bother with node.js on N66 nor any newer models. Too little onboard RAM to compile anything useful..
