OpenVPN server not starting at boot

Hello-

Have an AC86U I'm trying to setup and am having a problem where the OpenVPN server will not start (I think) after I reboot the router. If I click Apply, as if entering my settings again, the server eventually starts.

The status page says stopped, so I assume it's not starting. In the server config tab the 'Export OpenVPN configuration file' section says: 'Initialinzing the settings of OpenVPN server now, please wait a few minutes to let the server to setup completed before VPN clients establish the connection.' The wheel keeps spinning, forever.

I have configured the certificate info, etc previously and the router finished the initialization and the 'Export' button appeared in the section above. Tested one (local) client, it connected just fine as far as I can tell...Though I'm definitely no expert at this, far from it. Then I rebooted the router and got the result described above. Tried many times over a few days. Also, tried 384.8_2 first then 384.10.

I should also note that the router is not connected to the Internet just yet. I'm trying to configure it first so that I can just swap it in and replace my AC68P and not have much downtime for the rest of the family. I am also a newbie at Merlin, I've been using Tomato for the longest time.

Thanks!

Really glad you mentioned that: it was a crucial piece of information. What you see is normal until you connect. I don’t know the technical reason (maybe to do with getting the DDNS address registered?), but I have seen it often enough to know it’s normal. As soon as you connect, assuming you did everything else right, you’ll be in business.

Thanks!

I was wondering if that had anything to do with it...Then I thought, nah, the server starts when I click Apply so maybe not. Thanks for reading all the way through my post to get to that part! :)

I'll now see what else I need to config before I give it a test run.

You should be fine, but come right back if you hit any other snags.
