Pakedge AV-focused networking gear

Hi Guys,

Through dealing with one of my clients, he turned me onto a company called Pakedge. They appear to target high-end A/V similar to how Peplink targets multi-WAN. I'm guessing a bulk of their resellers would be full-service A/V shops, with a large part of the end user demographic represented as higher-end home owners/builders -- perhaps not too far off from some of the userbase here...

After doing a bit of Googling, I discovered an MSRP of $650 for their base-level RE-1 router, but couldn't find anything on internal specs, even though the owner blogs on the topic. Just curious if anyone has had any experience with their stuff, and/or if Tim thinks their gear would be worth evaluating here at SNB.

Edit: Here's a bit of marketing lingo on their stuff from CEDIA this past fall.

At that price point, there is nothing to interest me or turn me of off of the high end consumer grade products we currently enjoy.

I can get the specific problems this may solve for a high end A/V setup, but this is not what 99% of most home networking is about.

At half the price, it would be interesting but looking at the website and the links you provided all I can say is, they hired a great marketing company...

If Tim can get a unit to review, that would be welcome and I may have to eat my words.

But statements like

from their website make me cringe when it implies they can re-write basic RF laws, via code.

I suspect as much. Perhaps there's more to the product than what you sniff out on the surface as being marketing jargon... Would be nice to have a review at SNB, for sure.

I would love an Intel i7 quad core based router with 10GB of RAM, and I'm sure I would enjoy the resulting network experience.

However, when the website obscures the internals (much like Apple does, btw) there is a reason to be skeptical. Or at least wary.
