Playing HD video over WiFi

Is there any setting in the RT-N66Us firmware that can worsen or disrupt the WiFi performance so that High bitrate videos (wmv,mp4 and m2ts mainly) is almost impossible? I use VLC and mpc-hc on a core i3 laptop running Windows 7. Videos run for a few seconds then breakup/pause then run a few seconds. This repeats through the whole video. On another laptop it's the same.

What are your settings , i stream 1080p , MKV all kinds to my laptop and desktops , no problems .

What settings do you mean? I use 1080p. mkv is ok first 5-10 mins starts to be choppy. That is just video with Dolby or DTS sound. My laptop is bgn only no support for 5 GHz. In the router I use 2 channels (1,5) and 40 MHz

What speed are your wifi interfaces? You'll want at least 300 Mbits probably. 150 Mbits might be iffy (after you factor in the encryption overhead).

Use 500Mbits powerline adaptors. Forget Wifi for that.

MoCA is another way to go...uses the cable tv coax in your walls for streaming. I find it quite reliable for me, and enough bandwidth for my streaming needs. WiFi is great for laptops, phones, and tablets but for use streaming between clients that don't move around, MoCA works for me.

Just a thought...MoCA was plug and play for me, no configuration needed.
