Please help me setup N66U as Access Point

New Around Here
Hi, I'm in UK on VirginMedia via SuperHub (a router/wifi combo). I also have Cat6 ethernet wired from the downstairs room where the SuperHub is located to an upstairs room. My main PC is upstairs and I always want my main PC connection to be wired (wifi for the rest of the household members and my iphone, laptop etc).

My wireless was flakey in the far reaches of my house so I bought an N66U thinking that this would resolve the issue. I put the Superhub into modem mode and connected the N66U via the default mode. I updated to the latest FW. The wifi range was better, but not by much.

So, I thought I should give the following a try:

- Superhub connected in modem mode downstairs.
- N66U in Access Point Mode in the upstairs room, with a wired connection to my PC and throwing out wifi around the house.

I managed to get the AP Mode set up and the internet connection via the wired connection on the PC worked fine. But, although the wifi network can be seen by wireless devices, they cannot connect to the internet (windows troubleshooter says something about no DNS server).

I think I'm missing something elementary here and I think it may be to do with the message to use the Device Discovery software which, to be honest, I did not understand what to do with.

Could someone please help with that?

An additional question: should my PC be directly connected into the N66U internet port or one of the other, yellow, ports?

To use the asus in AP mode, follow these steps.

1. Put the super hub in to router mode
2. Put the asus in to ap mode
3. Connect the Ethernet cable coming from the super hub's LAN port in to the asus internet port (WAN port).

Thanks but by router mode do you mean modem mode or the other mode (default combo mode)?

What am I supposed to do with Device Discovery software?

Yes, use default combo mode on super hub.

I'm not real sure what device discovery software is. When I configure an Asus router for AP mode, I configure it manually, so I know exactly what it's IP address is. I think that's what you're talking about. When you put the Asus in to AP mode, you'll see that it gives you two options. I don't choose the automatic option. But if you're not real tech savvy, then choose the automatic option. Then you can look on the super hub's dhcp table to find out what IP address the super hub assigned it.....so you can access it. There's not a whole lot of reasons to access an asus in ap mode if you set up your wireless on asus before you put it in ap mode.

I'm confident you'll figure it out, but if you're stuck, I guess you could call asus....and they'll walk you through it.
