PPTP how secure is it? Want to use iPhone to VPN to home network

I want to use my iPhone to VPN in to my home network

Im using latest merlin firmware and have read that pptp is unsecure

So what do I use? iPhone doesn't support openvpn and I cannot jailbreak my iPhone yet (ios6)

Any other options?

Simply- How important is your data you are communicating over PPTP vpn?

Then, does PPTP provide sufficient protection to match up with how important you assess your data.

Currently PPTP is under scrutiny because of the level of protection afforded is relatively low compared to other VPN controls and there is the availability of automated tools which can be used to defeat the PPTP VPN controls.
