Promise NAS N4300N

Deisel23

New Around Here
I am hoping to get some answers, Promise tech support is, well, non-existent.

ok, here it goes. A few weeks ago, I had a drive die in the NAS (RAID5 with parity). I shut down the NAS, to be sure I didn't lose any data. Removed bad drive, RMA'd said drive. Reinstalled drive, rebuilt array (takes 4 days!).

After trying to transfer some large HD content to RAID, the shares basically shutdown. If I access NAS via web admin util, I cannot enable the windows sharing. It says it has succeeded, but then it shows as "disabled". If I access drive VIA FTP, I cannot write to any folders. It errors out with a write access denied error. If I take new drive out, the issue goes away...of course, I don't have any safety net. I haven't done an enormous amount of testing due to the device beeping every ten seconds.

I am running Firmware version 01.05.0000.12

I have 3 Model SAMSUNG HD103UJ
Firmware Version 1AA01113

and the 1 RMA'd drive is a
Model SAMSUNG HD103UJ
Firmware Version 1AA01118

Tech support is trying to tell me that firmware difference in drives "could be an issue"

It is extremely hard for me to believe that anyone trying to replace a dead drive would need to get the EXACT model and EXACT firmware. They are simply trying to brush it off.

I can say that other than the guy that runs around the forums for Promise, I think his name is Bill, this company is a total mess.

I have had nothing but issue after issue with this thing and don't think I will ever buy another Promise device again. Unfortunately for me, I have almost a thousand dollars rapped up in this device, and I don't have any other options but to get this one working.

Any advice, thoughts, or info would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

It would appear that the newest firmware for the NS4300N and yet another raid rebuild fixed the issue. Tentatively, I only been using it for a few hours....
