Push notifications from router to phone

Recently my alarm manufacturer cancelled their free push notification service and redirected to a cloud service which I cannot even setup as an end user - frustrating!

It got me thinking about doing this myself, I mean, how hard could it be, right?

One part of the problem is how to get push notifications to my phone. After some searching around, I found this: https://docs.ntfy.sh/

The service is completally free for public use and you can pay for private use. Or you can host it yourself for free, private use.

You download the app and subscribe to a channel of your choice. If you select the channel name wierd enough, like "xGyAIjhesVhu" it could be considered private in the sense that you are likely the only one using it. But you cannot be sure of that so it's not secure in that sense.

As far as I see, the stuff we send like "backup complete" or "vpn restored" does not contain any sensitive information so it may not be the end of the world if someone is eavesdropping.

So, to take it out for a spin I setup a channel "ZebMcKayhan" in the app and from the router I could send push notifications to my phone simply by entering:
Code:
curl -d "RT-AX86U Pro - Backup successful!" ntfy.sh/ZebMcKayhan

And almost instantly I get a notification on my phone:

I did some search around on snbforums but I could not find any mention of it. Wouldn't something like this make a great addition to our routers addons as a complement or substitution to email?

Anyone here have any experience from this service?

I initially thought about hosting this on my VPS so it will be private for my alarm system, but the more I think about it, I fail to find a reason for why this needs to be private as long as I get the notifications.
