QoS not doing anything?

New Around Here
Hi,

When I turn QoS on, my web browsing is still slow when I'm running for example, a bit torrent client...

It is noticeably slower on my mobile/tablet devices...

Would setting the download percentage lower help in the router settings (on the QoS page)? Say to 95-98%?

What firmware are you running? More recent firmwares, including the latest 260, have a problem with wireless stability on 2.4 Ghz WiFi for some users that may be making the problem worse.

General advice I gather for setting QoS properly is to enter the upload and download bandwidth to 80% of the best speed you have from a broadband speed tester. To get as accurate of a figure as possible test directly by plugging into your cable/ADSL modem.

Hope that helps.

The ASUS FAQ on the modem's console suggests that download limits are not really important, it is the limit on the upload that makes their QOS work.

But generally from what I have read is that the ASUS QOS is pretty lame compared to firmware such as the Tomato builds for the RT-N66U.

I would wish that Merlin would do some work to bring his firmware up to speed in the QOS department with for example Shibby Tomato.

My firmware is 3.0.0.4.314

I assume it is the latest since the update button says no updates....

I noticed my Galaxy Tab 2 sometimes 'sticks' and Wireless performance isn't that great on this router compared to my old bog standard ISP router. Not what I'd expect from a £90 router to be honest.

What would you guys suggest here? A different firmware?
