QoS-WAN/LAN Bandwidth Monitor on VPN clients

RT-AC86U with 386.3_2 firmware. I don't have QoS enabled. I just realized devices that are routed to VPN via VPN Director both upload and download are shown in the Upload Bandwidth meter on the left only. Is this normal?

Did a bit of searching, seems like this feature has been around for some time.

FWIW I see that that with the VPN client ON (openvpn) the bandwidth monitor on the 'adaptive qos page' is showing downloading traffic to the device as uploading. When the VPN client is disabled the display corrects itself. This is on a 68u and appears for both wired and wireless devices...
