Question about Cloud Station

Is there a way to specify which folders I want to back up to Cloud Station? It seems to remind me of Dropbox where it creates and syncs only 1 folder.

Please tell me I am wrong

Cloud Station is a poorly planned feature. Files are synced over the Internet unencrypted. No SSL wrapper, nothing. Pathetic and this shows how irresponsible Synology is and what they think of user data security. The lack of encryption during transit is not even listed on the limitations or known issues list. Aside from a few forum posters who discovered this, Synology has been quiet on the subject.

Finally, Synology seems to be adding encryption to the in transit transfers. I haven't had a chance to drill down, but at a high level they at least claim Coud Station now includes encryption for data over the web. How good of a job they did, is another question.

I did visit the Synology forum and took a look at the Cloud Station forum. Seems that there's still some serious problems with this tool. Hopefully DSM4.1 improves this feature.

Personally, not encrypting the transfer is less of an issue than how data is stored long term. The data is in the transfer pipe so briefly as compared to storage.

For storage service providers (rather than your PC to your PC transfers) and in the US and elsewhere, the service provider must be able to get the keys they used to reencrypt for storage, decrypt, and provide in answer to a legal court order. A huge problem is that berserk current/ex-employees that have access to these keys have stolen data. And sabotaged for revenge. It's happened quite a bit. The only cure for this is for YOU to encrypt the mass of data using your own methods (such as TruCrypt or SafeHouse or some such), BEFORE you upload. Given this, there's no worry about secure transport protocols.
