Question on 2 routers (similar but different)

RT-AC68U and RT-AC56U
both have the same CPU - broadcom BCM4708A0
the 56U has a 2018 build, the 68U is still current - can the 68U firmware be loaded onto the 56U?

I have the 56, but I'm not smart enough to JTAG if it I break it - but I also want the newer Merlin builds/
