I have 3 of these routers and experience lockups on one of them. This one becomes unreachable after a few weeks.
This one is under light load.

The other two are under medium load and sometimes start disconnecting / reconnecting the clients every few minutes.
After a reboot it's working again for a few days to weeks.

A factory reset didn't help.

After finding this post I downgraded from the 2 to the 0 version again to see if it helps.

Just my 2 cents
is this version more stable ? could you help to share your result/updates for us?
and I have downgrade to `3004.388.7` from 388.8.2, it also works well without any config changes.
it works 12 days now without any reboot or crash info(and 388.8.2 can't work more than 1 weeks).

I'm running an ASUS RT-AX86U Pro on Merlin 3004.388.8. It was a clean firmware install of a new router at that time. ZERO issues whatsoever; it's been solid as can be. (I haven't bothered to update to 3004.388.8.2 since it was a very minor update that wouldn't affect me.)

I've also been having issues for the last while. I set the reboot schedule to daily, which seemed to help for a while, but it's now crashing too frequently. I've just downgraded to 388.8_0 to see if that helps.

There never seems to be anything in the logs regarding the crash, though I am using scribe so I'm not sure if that's changed something. I don't have any of the Trend Micro stuff enabled, so I shouldn't be getting updates.

I'll turn off the reboot as well and see what my uptime is like.

It didn’t completely solve the issue, but it did improve my uptime. The router stayed up for almost a week before crashing, which is much better than what I was seeing before. I understand this is purely anecdotal, though.

More importantly, I finally started seeing some useful errors in /opt/var/log/messages again. Specifically, I noticed repeated entries like:

Code:
/opt/var/log/messages-20240927:Sep 26 07:11:31 RT-AX86U acsd: acs_candidate_score_bgnoise(1577): eth6: bgnoise check failed for chanspec: 0x180a (8l)
/opt/var/log/messages-20240927:Sep 26 07:11:31 RT-AX86U acsd: acs_candidate_score_txop(1835): eth6: txop check failed for chanspec: 0x180a (8l)
/opt/var/log/messages-20240927:Sep 26 07:11:31 RT-AX86U acsd: acs_candidate_score_busy(1060): eth6: busy check failed for chanspec: 0x180b (9l)
/opt/var/log/messages-20240927:Sep 26 07:11:31 RT-AX86U acsd: acs_candidate_score_intf(1112): eth6: intf check failed for chanspec: 0x180b (9l)

From this, I realised that channel hopping was contributing to the problem. I’ve disabled it for now, but it’s only been two days, so I can’t say for sure if this will resolve the issue long-term. Still, it feels like I’m making progress.

Any update on this as my Ax86u (not pro) has been rebooting randomly also? Using latest merlin fw. I've switched my network over to my AC3100 to see if it's a device causing the router to reboot, so far the 3100 has not rebooted. Strange.

Watching this as I'm having the same issue. Replaced modem twice - had ISP out twice. Returned my AX86U for a new one - still going on.

I have RT-AX86u - a few days ago the router blocked, it indicated that it was sending 866 MBit\s (I disconnected the modem and the router was still blocked and showed that it was sending), after restarting everything returned to normal for about 4 days, after 4 days the same. I restored factory settings and uploaded a copy from August 2024, after this operation the wifi networks stopped working, I did a hard restart (with the reset button on the router), now it does not turn on.
I used the latest ASUS software.
I am sending it for complaint.

I'm writing here because the problems you have are problems with the original software

Hi,

I had similar issues with the latest firmware (3004.388.8_2) on my RT-AX86U Pro. I also have a problem with Wi-Fi, as Wi-Fi clients like mobile phones are connected to the Wi-Fi but without internet access... I have to disable/enable Wi-Fi6, and sometimes, I have to reboot it. Sometimes, the router restarts by itself. So I just reverted to 3004.388.8 and will see how it will behave.

Update: Unfortunately the problem is still there, even on 388.8, I get WI-FI on all my mobile phones without internet access. Maybe I need to revert to an older version. Can anybody suggest the most stable firmware version?

sorry, I have rollback to a old version, and it works well.
for example: 3004.388.8 or 3004.388.7, no any crash now.

in addition, you can have a try with Don Draper's suggestion as bellow, and share your result with us, thanks.
Confirming that completely disabling AiCloud 2.0 has fixed this issue. Things are working smoothly again.

Hi, I do not use AiCloud 2.0 as I have a NAS so I don't need it. It looks like DNSSEC is causing problems for Wi-Fi clients, as they are connected to wifi but without internet access... So I disabled DNSSEC for now and will see if it will work better or not.

It looks like DNSSEC is causing problems

Most Asus router users around set DoT encryption to upstream trusted resolver. DNSSEC enabled in this case is like asking your family members for an ID every time they come home and use their own key to open the door. Not needed.

I'm using 3004.388.7 now, and it works well for me, no any crash without any configs change.
works more months, and my current uptime is :

22 days 5 hour(s) 33 minute(s) 20 seconds

no any crash without any configs change
Is this with or withour factory reset and manual rebuild?
Earlier I pointed out my own need to do this after the latest updates, to get wifi stable again.

sorry for the delay response.
I don't do any factory reset or manual rebuild when I downgrade to 388.8_2 to 388.7.
in addition, I just do a factory reset when I first upgrade to 388.8_2 with crash, and after a factory reset with 388.8_2, it still can't works, so I downgrade to 388.7.
it works well for me now.

I finally worked out the problem was the nand flash, I started getting some errors in the logs about it. I had some issue with getting debug logs out, I'm not sure if scribe changed something or I did. But I removed scribe and went back to the standard logging. That's when I saw the nand errors.

The router was old and I was due an update, so I just bought a RT-AX88U Pro and retired the old one.

For others with the same Router, or indeed similar symptoms on any router with the same nand, would you mind please posting the errors in the logs that alerted you to the nand going south? ta.

I believe the Trend Micro signature file was updated twice in the past week. Now at 2.420. Several days ago I was having issues with the node showing disconnected when running Merlin firmware on router and node. Could be something Trend Micro related?
Oot. Re Trend Micro, anyone getting this?

Code:
2.430 Updated : 2024/11/08 10:07

Signature update failed.
