Just vacuum-cleaned my old dusty R7000 to try this firmware, using it as a dumb access point only, to cover the garage and garden (replacing tplink gear):
- the silly 3-second port-7423 broadcast is gone. Bravo, after 1 year!
- new band steering functionality works, but only after removing any past connection history from my iPad it would reconnect using AC instead of 2.4. Some doubts here, as with the whole topic around band steering.
- 3 ms ping over wifi instead of 1 ms to the AP. Not disturbing though.
Using it for 2 days now and although it's getting cold in my garden; reception is excellent getting 500mbps download through speedtest.net. Using tx power set to 75%. I set it lower then the default 100% to not disturb clients inhouse. Maybe 25% would be good enough; haven't tried this yet.
Probably will revert to my old tplink setup as, in my use-case, it does not add any value beside increasing the energy bill ( tplinks are very power friendly).
