ReadyNas Home Setup

Gary

New Around Here
To all you techheads out there, I would like to achieve the following with my shiny new 2tb Netgear ReadyNas which I have managed to connect to my system:-
This ReadyNas is primarily for backup and secure storage of my ever increasing collection of family photos and videos. The ReadyNas is in a secure place in a basement and will rarely be physically touched. I currently use a windows 7 PC in the basement as my master photo computer. (I use the phrase master loosely as I end up with multiple copies of the same photos accross numerous PCs. I also have a Mac that my wife uses mainly for web access but also for photo viewing (the photos are on this as well - sigh). I also have a couple of laptops that the kids use (windows XP) and a PS3.
What I would like to do is move all my photos/videos off my master PC onto the readyNas for viewing by all the family. However, I want them to be able to view them but not make any changes or deletions ( in common with many women, my wife's first reaction to many photos is 'delete it NOW') and I don't want any surrupticious deletions. Also, I have had various issues myself with accidently dragging files to the wrong folder or even losing whole folders inside other folders.
I would log on as some sort of administrator to upload photos or edit them and when it's all set up as I want, I would just log as a viewer for viewing (the kids can be quite adept at sneaking onto my PC and potentially causing mayhem when I'm not looking).
I would like any backups to be an incremental increase only and never allow any data removal.
I would also like to back up the Mac using time machine to the ReadyNas and in time my Itunes library (which is currently on my master (Windows 7) PC and not the Mac - it's a mixed up world.
With a locked down system like this (if it's achievable) would it still be possible to tag photos with Picasa or Iphoto on the ReadyNas, as I am currently in the process of tagging mytens of thousands of pictures.
I know its a long winded question but this is presumably a setup that most (all?) multi user photo libraries should have. It's something that I would be happy to be pay for to achieve the level of security I'm after. Some may say it's a bit OTT but to my mind you only have to get it right once. Oh and I am a mechanical engineer and it sort of goes with the territory.
Also, before you all tell me, I know I need to take an off site backup periodically. I do do this from time to time (not as often as I should) with a removable drive as I don't trust the cloud yet! (Not sure I ever will)
Thanks for any advice. Perhaps you could publish it as one of those dummies guides but they're always a bit too broad for my liking.
Regards.
