Refurbished NAS

Are there any sites that have refurbished NAS boxes? I cannot find any sites that offer them.

I am looking for a qnap 469L.

Maybe OK to buy electronics. But I'd not want drives with unknown number of hours on them.

drives would absolutely be new, but the actual NAS can be refurbished. any thoughts on stores besides ebay of course. I want refurbished, not used.

No, I haven't seen refurb BYOD. You might find them at certain retailers where a customer didn't like or couldn't decipher how to use. I believe that most retailers definition of refurb means to try to get the packaging to look semi-new, then decide what warranty to use, if any, and if the customer is wise enough to get warranty expiration in writing.

I wouldn't recommend buying refurbs due to the much shorter warranty you are likely to get it on it.

If you do get a refurb, it is even more important than otherwise that you backup any important data primarily stored on your NAS as if the NAS has issues you may be on your own to try to get your data back or have to resort to expensive 3rd party data recovery.

New, used, refurb, every NAS has to have a backup. Usually a big USB3 drive. Kept out of thieves' view.

I love hunting down bargains. Unless I really need something, don't bother me until 3rd or 4th discount comes around. Patience can be a virtue. So is Google when bargain hunting.

Good bargains can be had on refurbs. A lot of them are just returns due to buyers remorse or some other emotional issue. Some things would be dumb to buy refurb, such as disk drives. NAS boxes would seem to be OK since they're basically refurbished computers. I have always had great success with refurbished computers (thank you Microsoft for all the Win 8 returns. I've saved big money on Win 8 refurbs.)

Just make sure the discount is deep. Really deep. Otherwise go with new.

Hi,
I bought many refurbs all of them works fine but one, Denon AV
receiver which had bad HDMI port. Of course I returned the RX
and bought different brand new one. IMO, on NAS except drives,
what is there to refurb.? Maybe cleaning and tightening screws?
Some times on user forums, often people sell their used one as a
result of upgrade. Still I don't see big price advantage.

I just want to get the 469L down to $400. I can find $500 but cannot do better.
