Replace main ai mesh router

Adam Mengon

New Around Here
I currently have two AC-68u routers meshed. Just picked up a Blue Cave to have something a little easier on the eyes in the living room where our main router lives.

Since our modem is wired in the living room, I want to make the Blue Cave the new main router with the twin ACs set up as nodes.

How do I go about doing this?

you wont get support in this forum for converted TM-routers as it is not allowed here and would be deleted, even to say search elsewhere for help would be to much help.

Ah, fair enough.

So, say someone has two meshed AC-68u routers and they want to add a third one, but use it to replace the current main router.

What would one do?

One would install current AiMesh firmware that supports AiMesh on the subject routers, factory default reset them, configure the router node, and add the remote nodes to the AiMesh from the router node.

Problems are:
o Current AiMesh firmware that supports AiMesh on the Blue Cave is freshly minted and likely flawed.
o Current AiMesh firmware can not be installed on unsupported routers unless you are able to figure this out on your own, including any ensuing system trouble that may or may not have something to do with trying to do this.

So is the "freshly minted" firmware for Blue Cave the release version, or the beta that I saw on here?

Bummed if it's the former. I had checked the Asus site prior to purchase and they stated it was mesh compatible. I guess it's still technically true even if flawed haha

Looks like the Blue Cave May 25 beta firmware has been released: https://www.asus.com/us/Networking/Blue-Cave/HelpDesk_BIOS/

So, initial release July 10... have at it! The 'flawed' comment is my own opinion of new AiMesh firmware... it's too ambitious to be flawless.

Your real challenge is unsupported hardware, imo.

Awesome, that's what I flashed last night.

So basically, reset everything and set up the cave first. Thanks for the help, all.
