Reserving IP on my network-same as static?

Hi, and please accept my apologies if this is a stupid question :

I have several devices on my network that are dependant on a consistent IP from the router (RT-N66U, latest RMerlin firmware .26). These are a Synology NAS using a Bonded link for the dual LANs, attached to a GS108T Netgear managed switch using LAG for the Bonded LANs on the NAS.

In the routers DHCP table, I have entered reserved IP's for both devices, which are within the DHCP range, NOT outside the range.

Have I approached this correctly?

Many thanks,

Mike

Reserving IPs as you have done is the proper thing to do. Some routers don't support this. In that case, you manually assign static IPs outside the router DHCP range.

Thank you Tim. I thought as much, as everything's been working flawlessly, but wasn't positive. When I go on the road is not the time I want to find out I assumed incorrectly.

You should be commended for this site. It attracts the best of the best, no crazy BS and flaming, just smart people and lots of great information.

I have donated to RMerlin as an appreciation of his work, is there a donation mechanism for the SNB site? I would be happy to contribute.

You're welcome, Mike. We try to keep things focused.

I appreciate the thought about donating. We don't have a direct way to donate. But if you click on one of the Amazon links in the reviews, we'll get a piece of anything you buy.

Sure is nice to have software in a router or DHCP server to set reservations. You reserve an IP for a MAC address. The really nice thing is when a month from now when you need the IP, you have one location to look up what you did last month. When you assign a static IP outside the DHCP range there is no location to look devices up. You need to keep good records. It is so much easier to set reservations and to look them up.
