Resolve firmwareversion nvram

I am looking for the right variable which shows the current firmware by nvram.

nvram show | grep buildno only shows 378.56 instead of 378.56_2 (for instance).

Is there another variable I am overlooking?
(Purpose: To use in a custom mailscript).
