In my environment I have a seperate dhcp server that does dynamic dns entries. Is it possible to point my asus to my separate dns server in order to get the resolving going or does this work automatically?

Use your own DNS server

Hi,

The answer is: Yes, you can! :)
Have look on the router configuration under LAN - DHCP Server: There is a field called "DNS Server".
If you click on the field name "DNS Server" then you get even an explanation of it.

With kind regards

Joe,

Thanks for the guidance. However, I have set the dns server, and even filled in the wins server and then rebooted my asus. It does not show up the hostnames, it still comes up with mac address and ip addres. Only the windows servers eventually get their hostname, but the ups interfaces and the linux servers and smartphones and tablets still only show as their mac address.

I think this only works if you use the internal dhcp server, but then I don't have dynamic dns anymore.

Hi,

This was discussed during the Beta phase of the current firmware: The hostnames are pulled from the routers DNS tabel.

In you case (having an external DNS provider) this will not work.

With kind regards
