RJ45 wall socket tool

Hi Small Net Builders

Can anyone remind me, (i should know better), the name of the tool that is used to attach the wires of a cat5 cable to the back of an RJ45 port, ie the mounted ports you would put on panelling, wall sockets etc?

Regards
Alan

I assume you're referring to a Punch-Down tool, such as those for keystone jacks? Lemme know if this isn't what you're looking for :)

If you purchase Leviton retail packaged Cat5e or 6 jacks from HomeDepot they come packaged with a disposable plastic punch down tool. Not the best but gets the job done in small installs.

If you are serious I recommend an impact punch tool with cutter on the blade. Fluke makes nice tools, but there's others for cheaper that work OK. Fluke even has a tool that will punch down all 8 wires and trim them simultaneously. Only works with certain brand jacks.
