Router and Connection Stability: N66U/380.70/Comcast

dang

New Around Here
Three comments to set the stage:
1) I realize this router is now in legacy mode. Hoping to get a few more months out of it before moving to a new solution (asus/microtek/ubiquiti)
2) The issues first appeared last week after I upgraded from 380.69_2
3) I have performed a recovery reset and entered all site specific settings via the UI

After upgrading to .70 (with recovery reset), I noticed that the internet would periodically drop out several times a day. Looking at the logs, I noticed that I was loosing the dhcp connection to Comcast. I was able to restore the connection with `service wan_restart` from the console so I believe this is on the router side.

I checked my WAN DCHP setting and noticed it was set to `aggressive`, so I changed it to `normal`. This seemed to provide more stability, however now the router started to periodically reboot. I was not able to find any information in the logs to why (tail -f /tmp/syslog.log from console).

I performed another factory reset and disabled /jffs and my custom ddns script. I reset all my site specific settings (wireless network names, ip address range, ssh key). I still experienced periodic wan drops and more frequent router reboots.

After reading through the forums, I then turned off ipv6 (this can only be a temp work-around, as I need IPv6) to see if it makes a difference. I haven't seen a router reboot yet, but the setting has only been live for a few hours.

Has anyone experienced this? Any tips on next steps or other settings I can update to help resolve this?

I realize, of course, I can move back to .69_2, but if I do that I might as well grab a new router.

Cheers

There was no changes related to dhcp or busybox in 380.70. Turn off your modem for 10-15 mins to fully reset the connection to your ISP.

To follow-up:
NET: The cable modem power-off step seems to have resolved the random reboot issue. Connectivity is as expected.

Details.
I reset the cable modem (NetGear CM-1000), waited for 20 minutes, powered on and let sync to the COMCAST network. After that, I powered on the router. At first, the wan did not issue a dhcp address and `service wan_restart` did not resolve the issue. I powered off the router and restarted after a few minutes. The wan dhcp was successfully issued and everything seems to be working as expected.

The router has not rebooted or lost connectivity in ~48 hours. (Though I've been away on business). I'll re-enable ipv6 and hit the router with my normal network traffic tonight to see how it goes.
