Router crashing 2-3x per day

Hello,

My router has been crashing about 3x per day for the last few days. How can I determine the source of the problem? I recently enabled dual wan in the GUI. Not sure if that had anything to do with it. My internet connection has been very unstable as well.

1) Is the ISP router installed and functioning correctly ? If not, get that resolved with the ISP. Otherwise, put the ISP router back in as the primary router and yours as secondary (double NAT). Does the ISP connection stabilize ?

2) Check the power brick for the ASUS - is it warm, cold, or hot ?

Hi there. A router running unknown version of Asuswrt-Merlin in unknown configuration - reboot, reset, start over with manual configuration and without any custom scripts. An ISP with unknown stability issues - follow @degrub advice above, find if there are the same issues with the ISP provided equipment first. If Yes - call the ISP to fix, it's their responsibility. If No - you have to find the issue with your own equipment, it's your responsibility. Dual WAN feature is kind of broken on Asus routers, don't rely on it.

1) I am using an Asus RT-AX88U Pro with Asus Merlin running version 388.8_4 since it was released. I am using a Netgear Modem for my cable service connected to WAN1 and a 5G modem connected to WAN2. When connected to WAN1 the service is horrible, when connected to WAN2 the internet is very stable. I contacted my cable company and the bot told me my internet service was fine and it is probably my router. But I have no issues with my router when connected to the service on WAN2. The only time my service seems unstable is when switching from WAN1 to WAN2 during failover.
2) The powerbrick feels fine. It is slightly warm. The CPU usage is under 5% for all CPUs and am using 1/2 the available RAM. The only time the CPU looks unstable is during a switch from WAN1 to WAN2; CPU usage is very high. I was using the amtm dual wan component for a while, but since the cable service became unstable, the number of switches happening per day was 30-40. I switched to the Asus built in version, because I can control how often failback (Wan2 to Wan1) happens.

Should I attach my syslogs?
Have you looked at the syslog? There may be a hint there. The Pro models have other issues that cause reboots (such as adding a TAP device to a bridge), so I would not be surprised that other features are causing a reboot.

What happens if you disable this Dual WAN (known to be unreliable and cause issues) and use the regular WAN connection only? Your modem perhaps have line stats and logs as well. Do you see it disconnecting from the ISP service?

Just please don't say the Netgear Modem is the DM200. Had one of these could NEVER get it to work for more than an hour or so!
