Router for Torrent + Tomato? Budget:$100-130

New Around Here
Hello!

First off, I know that routers aren't really made (in terms of hardware) for downloading and sharing torrents, especially larger files.

However, I'm a student with a little bit of savings that would like to setup a 1TB external hard drive with a router, preferably with Tomato.

I have a Netgear WNR3400Lv2 today that is having a hard time to deal with just 4-5 torrents. Transmission GUI looses connection and the speeds are at 1Mb/s (Have 10Mb/s WAN in/output).

I'm not necessarily looking for a higher download/upload speed, I guess a more stable setup really that can handle this a bit better.

I also use the router to stream to my TV and it does so almost perfectly @ 720p quality.

So, what I'm asking is, what should I be looking for in a new router, CPU and RAM I assume? USB 3.0 port for the external or is 2.0 enough still?

My budget is around 100-130 US Dollars, however I would purchase in Europe which increases the price a bit (compared to US to my knowledge) and all makes and models might not be here. I would suggest using amazon.co.uk or amazon.de or similar if you want to link, that way I know it's available in Europe.

Best regards!

Never had issues on my ASUS AC66U with multiple GB torrents each having ~200 peers connecting. Can reach my full download speed too (about 14 MBytes/s) and the router doesn't mind.

The AC66U has a single core MIPS CPU @ 600 MHz with 256 MB RAM and from tests on here, it can handle about 30.000 simultaneous connections at a time, IIRC. The GUI has a limit of 300.000 though. Never tested that much
