Ive been researching routers for months, and just dont know enough to make a good decision. I have looked through the articles and forums on this site a lot in the past and finally decided to just post, and see if maybe someone can help me.
Here is the setup:
Two offices connected via a site to site VPN. Hand full of remote users that do NOT use VPN.
Main office: 3 Mb Dual T1 - approx 20-30 users - Server hosting Terminal services to 15 internal users, plus 5 at the remote office (through VPN), and about 5 more remote users (not VPN).
Remote office: 1.5 Mb T1 - approx 5-10 users. Art department at this location, some times needing to download large files from the servers at main office.
Currently have two Trendnet VPN routers. VPN works good, but the routers seem to have a problem with handing out bandwidth, and will stall A LOT. Both locations require reboots multiple times a day. Usually possible via web interface, but sometimes require power cycling. It seems like when one connection is made to attempt to use a lot of bandwidth (large download, streaming video or something), it cannot then give any bandwidth at all to any body else.
So Im looking for replacements. Id like something in the $500 range. I had a pro come in and suggested $1200 routers, which I think may be over kill. I had decided on the Netgear SRX5308 due to its high bandwidth, but second guessing now, due to it having so many features I dont need. (multiple WANs, Gigabit Wan). The only other kicker is we are on a list to get FiOS eventually, at about 25/25 Mb, so I need to be ready for that, I guess.
Mostly I want something really reliable, so people will stop complaining. I am not a networking guy, just the most techy guy in the office, so it got dumped on me.
Help??
Thanks,
Ben
