scMerlin Router services enabled for no apparent reason

There are several services I see on the scMerlin addon page that I don’t understand why they are enabled, since I haven’t activated them and don’t need them:

I don’t use FTP, Samba, or DDNS on the router, so why are these services running? Can I disable them?
The same goes for the OpenVPN and WireGuard clients/servers.
Thanks. Regards.

The only one of your highlighted services that's actually "active" by default is Samba (in USB Application) which needs to be disabled if that's what you want.
I believe that part of the scMerlin menu is hard-coded - ie, it doesn't actually scan for active services.

Ok, then I don’t understand the usefulness of scMerlin if it doesn’t show the services that are actually running and allows you to “restart” any service, whether it’s really active or not.

RMerlin himself recommended NOT to use this specific add-on.
Only because of the way it tries to modify the UI menus and is prone to breakage. The basic service control features aren’t controversial (until this thread).

Correct. The common "UI not working" in every new firmware release thread.

To be fair, the screenshot shows the buttons to 'restart' the service of your choice.
It does not tell you they are are running.
It is a very 'focused' UI that is simply 'push this to restart this', it does not tell you if it is a good idea or whether it will break something you are currently doing etc etc.
The onus is on you to 'know' what you are doing and therefore if you do not 'don't push the button'.
I run it as an alternative means of access IF I cannot ssh into the router (I have never used it yet !!!).
It has never caused me any problems with the UI either, through multiple firmware upgrades, your experience may differ.

P.S.
Plug for another addon.
BACKUPMON is your friend ... you can always recover from 'things going wrong' and get back to a working configuration ... no matter what you do !!!
