RT-87ACR went to half speed

New Around Here
I have Comcast/Xfinity with Blast Pro (250 speed). Recently I noticed that my cable modem (Surfboard SB6141) has a amber vice blue blinking light at the bottom - the link light. It now appears that somewhere - router or modem - i am now only getting 10/100 mbps speed across my network connection. When i run a speed test, i am at half my normal network speed. I haven't tried to wire directly to the modem as I don't have a laptop in the house to test that with (will be available in a month).

I don't see any options in the router to change the WAN port speed or how to check the speed to see which item is having issues. The lights above the link light are all blue, so the signal from Comcast is good.

Any ideas? I just updated my firmware on the router as well but that was AFTER I started having this issue.

most likely bad cable or contact, you could try to plug in and out many times on both sides.

Yeah, had a 5e cable on there and that was my first thought. Now I have a cat 6 and no change.

Again, not sure if it is the 6141 or the AC87R.

Wire a Gigabit Ethernet adapter (PC) to the SB6141... the link LED should be blue. I just disconnected the coax to mine and it stayed blue, so maybe you carry the modem to a working PC to test it.

Well I carried the modem into my office and did just that. But I figured it was still amber (link light) because the coax wasn’t connected. And it was a gigabit port - I checked. So I guess it is the 6141. Any tips to get it functioning right again? I did the factory reset on it several times last night. Maybe it’s time to replace it? It is 5-6 years old.

I tested again... disconnected the coax and cycled power to the modem... the link light comes up blue when connected to GigE.

Mine is on factory defaults... or maybe the ISP fiddled with it. I checked the manual and the GUI at 192.168.100.1... it has a Configuration tab but I don't see any adjustable settings.

It's an unusual fault, if so.

ARRIS SB8200 looks nice!

if you see all 8 pins standing parallel up and not corroded inside the plug you probably best change it.

bad out of the box upto 20 years ...
often power adapter is first part to be replaced, but as things are going faster you have to replace it long before.

Look at the 8200...anyone think another brand is better?

I've only used Motorola/Arris SB5120, then SB6141 for faster service. Zero problems, so I'm inclined to stick with Arris.

Got the SB8200 and it cruises like a dream with 1000/base connection. I don’t get the blue light on the uploads so I guess Comcast doesn’t have 3.1 on the uploads in my area.
