RT-87U for Cox Gigablast or upgrade router

Amgclk65

New Around Here
hello.
New to the forums. Quick question for the experts here. I upgraded to Cox Gigablast internet. After running some speed tests via ac WiFi. I’m thinking I need to upgrade. It appears to be maxing out at 500mbps. Ethernet is good. 700-850mbps. My 87u is running the latest stable Merlin firmware. I did a factory reset as well, Which helped my WiFi speeds. It was stuck at 250-300mbps .
So my question is . Do I need to upgrade my router to attain 700-900mbps speeds via WiFi? Or can my RT-87U supply those speeds ? Granted I haven’t seen it do it yet:). Modem is SB8200.
Any info would be awesome

500 Mbps sounds about right for commonly available devices such as an iPhone or iPad which can do two stream 802.11ac 80 MHz wide.

The latest devices might do a little better than 500 Mbps if the router and device support MCS 11 1024 QAM (MCS 9 256 QAM is more typical)

There are only a few devices which can do two stream 160 MHz.

Usually it is just router to router which can do four stream.

I am not aware of any 802.11ax devices.

Websites in general cannot deliver 500 Mbps.

Okay.
So buying a RT-AX88U isn’t going to improve my WiFi speeds on the latest iPhones and iPads ? I got rolled up in the gigabit internet tape. Thinking my iPhone XS Max should be seeing 700-900mpbs speeds.

The question is whether the Broadcom non-standard 1024 QAM implementation in the RT-AX88U is compatible with Apple's non-standard 1024 QAM implementation in the iPhone XS. I have not seen a credible claim of real world 1024 QAM throughput yet.
