RT-AC3100 wireless speed drops out after a couple minutes on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands

Matthew Norris

New Around Here
I've had my RT-AC3100 for two months now and it was incredible compared to my previous router that I had for years. For the first month things were great. I have 300mbps down and 25mbps up internet connection. When I setup the new router I was easily getting 200+mbps over wireless. Now, if I power off the router and power it back on I get that speed for about 4 or 5 minutes, maybe less, and then the speed bottoms out to about 2 to 5mpbs. I've tried to contact ASUS, but they're not being helpful. I've updated to the latest firmware. I've turned off all non-essential features. I get full bandwidth over the wired connection, but lose the wireless speed without fail. Anyone have any suggestions?

Try a hard button reset. While the router is powered on hold the reset button with a pen tip for at least ten seconds then let go. Wait at least two minutes for the router to restart. Next when you try to access a web page on the internet you will have to set it up again as if it was a new router. Go through all the manual configuration... wireless name, passwords, custom settings, etc.. Once it's set up and done with the configuration and your internet is working you can power cycle the router by powering it off for ten seconds then on again. Let us know how the reset works.
