RT-AC3200 crash when login to setup page

Nokas2004

Hello experts, i need help:)

I bought my Asus RT-AC3200 for 18 Month ago. There has been NO problems, my network has run like charm all the way. I have always updated firmware to the newest Merlin every month. There is about 25 wireless Devices Connected to the router. No cabled Devices are Connected.

But one week ago, some strange happens.. The router "crash" (loosing nettwork /WAN Connection) every time i visit the router setup page. (192.168.1.1). I am not doing any adjustments in the setup, im just loging in.. Then the router goes crazy. Some times it crash after 2 secound, and some times after 2 minutes, but it always crash when i am in the setup page. It doesnt matter if I log inn 192.168.1.1, or I log in by port 8080 and my IP adress. Same happens on both metods. It happens also when i log in to my router fram my parrents home. The solution is to Power off, and on again, then the nettwork i stabil again. But after restarting the router I also haveing the problem that 5-6 Devices cant log on the network, because they get the Message that the wifi password is incorrect.. (But for sure the correct password are entered).

I have tried to downgrade the firmware to an earlier Version (Merlin 380.69), and I have tried reset the router back to zero, but nothing helps. My RT-AC3200 keep crashing everytime i log in to router setup page,

But, as long I dont visit the setup page, everything is fine. No issues.

What causes this??

Hello Nokas; experts abound, but sadly I hung up my expert hat years ago:) We have really enjoyed our 3200, except for a couple of minor snags, it's been a champ for about 14 months. Currently we're on 380.68_4, it's been extremely safe, stable and never conks out; well-behaved.

Last fall I'd thought about reverting so we could run more than 2 simultaneous Openvpn tunnels, the last version that could accomplish that was last spring, before the code was changed so only two OpenVPN configs could be active, to avoid over-stressing/or crashing (my words) the meager 64 MB of NVRAM. Now that the new code opens that up to a glorious 128 MBs of NVRAM, we're just waiting until the dust settles,

According to this:
https://www.snbforums.com/threads/b...84-3-beta-is-now-available.44438/#post-378699
the 3200 can't be reverted once you move up to 384, so the very few that have managed to do it have some secret voodoo they aren't sharing. In other words, if you figure out how to revert or downgrade yours, you get the wizard for a day star:)

I'm sure someone will offer another suggestion, but if you've followed the Merlin wiki and used the Asus restore/rescue tool to apply either the latest Asus or Merlin FW (again) the router should be recoverable. Although some routers are bad out of the box, (yours has been at this for a long while), I've found if you power them off once in a while, like giving an iphone/ipad one night a week turned off, it gives the device a rest and clears everything out.

We power down the systems daily, but that's just us. Your router has run 18 months without issues, so try another complete restore following the wiki exactly, and it should get back to work. If it doesn't post back and someone will help. As Merlin says, it's pretty hard to brick an Asus router; true it's can be done, but you'd have to work really hard to toast it or get an unlucky lightning or power hit that permanently scrambles it's brain. Good luck and cheers.

My 3200 ended in å endless reboot. Tried everything. My 3200 went crazy when i downgraded from 384 an back to 380. Dont know why, but somthing got messed up after the downgrade. I bought a new 88u, and using a 1900u as AiMesh node. This rund very well

Nokas2004. Not entirely sure what's going on with your router, but Merlin noted in the release for the new 384 when he released Merlin FW for the RT-AC3200, that once flashed to v384 the router can't be reverted, and you can't reflash it back to the older v380 FW. It may be possible that it can be flashed back to the Asus official FW, but in this case I suggest you repost to ask someone to help you through it.

It's doubtful your AC3200 is ruined, though it may not be responsive at the moment; unless you've thrown it away, and it's just a suggestion, take a break then come back to it. If you're patient, someone will probably help you bring it back to life. If it is possible to flash the router to official Asus FW, it would make a great AP or a back up router, since you now have a new 88u, or you can just sell it.

It's difficult to read between the lines of your OP, but it sounds like something else may have been happening at the time when the router began it's slide to where it is now. Without knowing exactly what was happening, since there's no log to look at, it's possible a penetration occurred, which can cause any number of bad things to happen. When accessing the router from outside the home, if something isn't exactly right, if someone got inside your LAN, keep in mind everyone is under 24/7 attack from every angle.

Asus used to have a two year warranty on the AC3200, so if you can't get any response flashing to the newested Asus FW, even with help, if you have your invoice/receipt, you can ask Asus for an RMA and request that they look at it. Good luck whatever you decide.

I have thrown away my 3200. But im for now happy whit my new 88u. But: first i was on merlin 380 on my 3200. Updated to merlin 384. But then my 66u (repeater) stoped working. Repeater mode on 384FW on 3200 is only compatible if the repeater also has 384FW. Så I had to revert my 3200 back to 380FW to get my repeater (66u) strart working again. That was possible to do, just uploaded the 380 file and flashed back to 380. But after i did this, the router went crazy If you are on Asus 384 stock FW, it is NOT posible to revert back to 382 or 380. You will get an error message from Asus that say this is not possible. But if you are on Merlin FW, you not getting this error message, and the system will let you downgrade from 384 to 380 without any error warnings. But, anyway.. the downgrade messed up my 3200.
