RT-AC3200 & HDD (same as RT-87U & HDD)

New Around Here
I am very new to this forum. This may have been discussed here, but I was not able to find it.

I have a RT-AC3200 running 380.57, and configured as FTP server. A HDD (WD 3T External) connected to the USB port (2.0 or 3.0) on the router. The HDD receives heavy traffic from 20+ networked clients every minute or so (Write up to 40 ~ 50 MB every minute or so). The HDD will work fine for sometimes a couple of days, and up to 2 weeks. Then all of a sudden the router would mysteriously change the network name of the HDD, adding (1) at the end of the drive name.

This little change in the drive name makes all networked clients not able to access the pre-assigned FTP folders.

This happened in previous Merlin built as well. It also happened with a lower-end RT-AC87U. I tried to unplug/plug in the HDD, power-cycle the HDD and/or power-cycle the router, sometimes the drive name would return back to original sans (1), sometimes it would go to (2). I don't even know which combination worked.

Anyone out there experienced the same? Is it that I have put too heavy of traffic on these HDD?

Another note, I have seen some of the folders duplicate themselves in all lower case. Both upper case and lower case names point to the same folder, but 2 would show up in the folder lineup. This may be of a different issue, but I just thought of throw it out there. It all relates to this external HDD to router issue.

Another note on top of the above, sometimes a folder would simply not accepting any new files. I think there is a limit of how many files one single folder can hold under these routers (if I put the same HDD on PC, I can put more files into the same folder).

This is enough for now. Thanks for reading through my rambling. Any help is appreciated.
