RT-AC66U Can't flash any firmware except lastest official

Hi... as the title says, I just got this router and flashed it to 380 after setup(I think it had 378 out of the box?). After numerous attempts with several Merlin FW's AND the official 378 from asus, the only way I do not get the "unsuccessful" error is if I reflash 380 from the asus website, which works perfectly. I've tried all the reboot/restore/unplug stuff, and it has never had a usb connected to it. I've also tried it from FF(my normal browser), Chrome and IE.

Any advice?

Hello, I have the same problem on RT-AC68U, I updated firmware to 3.0.0.4.380_3264 and tried different methods to update Merlin firmware, but without success. Thanks for your suggestions.

Thanks. After a bit of searching I got it into CFE, and rolled it back. the merlin 380 seems to be working now. Wish there had been a note or something on that site, or that Asus would put that in the error message with the new fw. =( Stayed up a few hours last night wondering why nothing worked lol

Searches were just leading me in circles... thanks again.

What, like in the very first line of the description...

I said "that" site, meaning the merlin site, which has multiple info pages, a readme, changelog and wiki... none of which mention it doesn't work as stated any more. I guess at 2 am I did not fully read the release notes of the fw I had no intention of using. My bad.
