New Around Here
I don't know where to start,

Data Points:

  • My Internet service is capable of 4-6 Mbps (ADSL via TP Link) and I've verified the 'real' bandwidth with my ADSL modem connected to my laptop using PPPoE login and I see ~5 Mbps on http://www.speedtest.net/

  • With my old Linksys WRT54G creating the PPPoE link and serving up WIFI (2.4 only), I'm getting between 2.5 - 4 Mbps from multiple clients (laptops, appleTV, etc) SEE ATTACHMENTS.

  • I purchased an RT-AC66U on the recommendation of a colleague and configured it with all defaults running the latest FW from ASUS (374_979) and with most features disabled (WPS, etc.)

I'm flabbergasted at how slow this thing is! ... I mean ... 0.3 - 0.5 Mbps , are you kidding me?

I bought it for the following reasons;
  • being able to handle more devices as they're added to the network
  • taking advantage of 802.11ac devices in future along with 5ghz
  • eventually, my Linksys will bite the dust

I'm hoping for suggestions or this thing is going to get RMA'd ASAP

Best Regards

hey,

while i wouldnt expect this to hit your bandwidth so hard, but most pppoe connections need a wan MTU of 1492, did you set this?

Configure 2.4GHz with 20MHz on Channel 1, 6 or 11.
Configure 5GHz with 80MHz on Channel 161.

Do a speed test using wired ethernet first and then proceed to test wireless throughput.

Well none of these worked out ... boy this thing is slow

Anyone know how to RMA this thing?

Is Speedtest.Net Mini the only tool you have used to measure your speed?

I have the Ac66U and got the following results:

Mini chrome Extension : 0.99 Mbps
http://www.speedtest.net/ : 19.42 Mbps
(yes, both results are in Mbps)

I couldn't quite find Ookla/Chrome extension (or I would run this comparison too), but this is revealing.

And to the OP--I get 30-40 mpbs down, so the router design is fine. You may well have a problem that requires returning it, but more than likely, you have a configuration/settings problem. Maybe it's not playing well with your modem.

I found the mini extension:

1.85 down
Upload woudln't even start.

On the ookla site:

36+ down, over 4 up.

The problem sounds like your measuring tool, not necessarily your router.
