Hi,

I sometimes have problems with both the RT-N66U and the RT-AC66U that they are just loosing the internet connection WAN for a view seconds. Usually 1-2 times a day.

When checking in the syslog I see the following information:

Was running RT-N66U with Tomato Shibby firmware, and there this never is happening. As soon as I'm using the ASUS firmware, the problem occurs on both models. No matter wither I'm using the standard ASUS or the RMerlin firmware version.

Running now latest 3.0.0.4.220.17 RMerlin, and this is happening as well.

What is it related to?
My ISP used DHCP to give my router an IP adress.

Make sure the cable between the router and the modem is Cat 5e or Cat 6.

If using a cablemodem try turning the modem off 5-10 mins to release all connections, and turn it back on. See if the connection remains stable.

Ethernet Link down does seem to indicate that either there's a bad connection between the router and the modem, or the modem is having issues/rebooting.

Had the same problem with the rt-n66u every day. Found out it was my isp ( from the many similar complaints on the internet ) and that my cable modem was rebooting at the same time. I open a ticket with the ISP today, it has not been resolved, but my connection was perfect today. Hope this helps.

I have experienced disconnects from WAN using the AC66U with .220 firmware and a reboot of the modem (AT&T; 2Wire) helped.

What modem/ISP are you using?

For reference, my RT-AC66U is connected to a Thomson DCM-475 Docsis 3.0 cable modem, and it's been rock-stable so far on the WAN side (the AC66U been my "main" router for about 3-4 weeks now, while the N66U serves as development platform).

Thanks for your replys.

My ISP is not using any cable modem. It's just an Ethernet contact in the wall. Every flat in the house where I'm living has it's own Ethernet contact from the ISP to get the internet in the flat.

But I checked the cable as RMerlin worte and I think that was the problem.
The cable I used from my ISP Ethernet Contact to the WAN contact on the RT-AC66U was just a CAT5 cable, unschield. Not even CAT5e.

So I changed this to a CAT6 shield cable and have now running the router for 1 1/2 days since then without any disconnects on the WAN side.

So maybe the useage of a CAT5 instead of CAT5e or CAT6 cable was the reason.

Thanks!
