RT-AC66U signal problem

New Around Here
Hello,

I checked the existing threads but didn't find a matching one. So here is my problem:

I bought that ASUS RT-AC66U, set it up and everything worked fine for about 3 weeks. Then suddenly the signal strength (the bars in my mobiles) dropped from 4/5 bars to zero if I am more than 2 meters away from the router. I have to sit at 2 meters to get 1-2 bars, and right next to it, to get 2 bars of 5.

No matter which of our 2 tablets or mobile phones I use, it's the same for all. LAN connects are working still fine and there is no clue in the system logs.

I did not change anything - this drop simply happened.
I played around with settings for the 2,4 GHz WLAN and the 5 GHz, I tried several different Firmwares, up to the latest from Asus (12.02.2014), Merlins as well as DD-WRT.

I had several resets to factory settings etc. nothing helped.

The strange thing is (I turn it off when I go off to sleep), that in the morning, when it gets powered up again, it is working really fine with a very good signal strength for about 5-20 minutes, very different.

When I turn it off then and on again, it stays bad.

So my assumption was, that it has some kind of overheating problem, but I am not sure. Maybe a bad solder joint or whatever.
Merlin's FW showed me a temperature of about 50-60 degrees, which I assume is normal.

I have no clue what to do and it is somewhat annoying there seems no way to fix it.

Help is very appreciated because I like the device much more than the NetGear device I had before. Else I will have to give it back to the shop.

Thanks in forward!
