RT-AC66u wireless performance

I have no security if I'm using their device for my home network. I have pretty much devices and I prefer to have them in a lan totally controlled by me. The router from my ISP has ftp port opened, also it's exposing the admin interface of the router to the public, without allowing me to stop those services. The ISP has an account which allows him to operate that router remotely, I will definitely not use that for my home network, even if it's faster.

If you run their router in bridge mode you can still manage all security at the next hop, which would be your ASUS router.

To be honest, if someone realllyyyyyyy wanted into your network your ASUS router security isn't going to stop them. You would need a much more complicated setup.

I agree. But for sure, the setup with the Asus is more secure, than the one with only using the ISP's router.

Agreed, just make sure to keep it firmware up to date and use the firewall properly.

With so many security vulnerabilities discovered in firmware and your ISP no longer managing the router you will need to make sure it's up to date and secured.

Just an update on this old topic: today I installed latest version of Merlin firmware, unfortunately I have the same the same speed issues, I even consider that Merlin firmware is slight below Asus firmware on wireless performance.

The interface of Merlin firmware is more responsive, it never was so responsive in fact, but, as wireless performance was a little bit slower, I decided to return to original firmware.
