So I posted this problem several months ago on my RT-AC88U and it is now happening on my AC68U at another location.
Briefly, the AC88U randomly froze every 2-7 days on Merlins firmware several months ago. All devices (wireless/hardwire) will lose network connectivity although all lights on the router are on. Rebooting the router temporarily resolves the issue. I tried reflashing, resetting and manually entering all settings with no luck for a month. I had a suspicion that it may be the traffic analyzer statistics that I enabled, but I ended up flashing the AC88U to stock firmware. Since then (about 5 months), I have had no problems and have had the traffic statistics enabled on stock firmware.
Now at another location the AC68U was working fine on Merlin 378.53 for over a year with no reboots. About 1-2 weeks ago, I decided to enable traffic statistics on this box as I wanted to determine how much data my separate Tmobile cellspot is taking (as anyone with TMO service in the area can use it). Since enabling traffic statistics, the router has frozen twice in exactly the same manner as the AC88U.
So this means that traffic analyzer on the merlin firmware is causing the freezes. There are also several other threads with similar symptoms mentioning traffic statistics but they did not definitively isolate the issue. But I think its clear cut in my case.
Anyone have any idea why this is happening and if there is a fix? I dont see this mentioned in the changelogs for the new merlin firmwares. Thanks
