I have a problem with my Asus Router. I cannot reach more than 220Mbit/s from laptop with Wireless-AC 7260 miniPCIe card to HTPC connected via GBit Ethernet.
I am using latest router firmware (downloaded from Asus support page), I left everything at factory defaults (I did factory reset after upgrading the firmware).
I am also using latest drivers for the WiFi card. I tested the card on two laptops (Alienware M14x R2 and M18x R1), smaller laptop delivered lower speed compared to its bigger brother. It was ~200Mbit/s. Both systems are running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
The connection manager said the connection speed was 866,7 Mbit/s on both laptops. I left all the options for WiFi card in device manager at default values on both laptops.
I did the testing with iperf3 application. Data transfer speed (copying from/to HTPC) is adequate to 220Mbit/s. If I disable the wireless connection and I try wired (Gbit) connection from my laptop to the router, the trasnfer speed is much faster, it utilizes the Gbit ethernet to its maximum capacity. So there is no problem between the HTPC and router, just between the router and wireless clients.
I also tried using the Wireless-N 6200 miniPCIe card, which is not AC, but delivered 140Mbit/s transfer speed on both laptops. I do not know if it is good speed for N card or if the router is somehow capping this speed too.
Is there anyone with the same issue and resolved it? Should I buy another miniPCIe AC card? There is a video on youtube from user Lon Seidman who shows he managed to transfer files from iPad via AC68U router with speed of about 450-500Mbit. So I think the router should be capable of transferring at much higher speed than I can achieve.
