RT-AC87U maximum 5GHz speed only 1300mbit/s?

Recently I came to believe my 2.4GHz wifi from my RT-AC87U router died, even after factory defaults it just wouldn't want to come up again. So I decided to buy a new one.

Now, after some fiddeling with tftp firmware restore, somehow 2.4GHz came back online. Meaning: I've 2x a RT-AC87U now

Perfect time to test the wifi media bridge I though. But when connecting over 5GHz with 80MHz channel width I can't get the link speed to go faster than 1300mbit/s. Normally all my 5GHz devices, when near enough, quickly jump to their fastest supported link speeds but not the router.

Did Asus falsly advertise 1733mbit/s? Has anyone had higher link speeds?

Right, well at least Tim saw that it's doing a 4 stream.
Kinda sad that even after 2 years of firmware updates this is still the same.

Agreed. But it seems like Asus has done everything it possibly could. Quantenna should have issued the 'fix' for it's chipset, imo.

I know, old thread but I've an interesting update.
Asus released a new firmware 3.0.0.4.382.50010 a few days ago.
Now I'm seeing some jumps to 1560mbit/s!
Smells like new Quantenna firmware, although I'm not sure how to tell if it is.
On my other rt-ac87u I'm still on merlin fw 380 version. Asus hasn't released any source code yet it seems.
Perhaps we'll see bigger improvements when both routers run the 382 branch, or maybe even the 384 one (with AiMesh)
I really quite hope Asus will release AiMesh for this router
