RT-AC87U spontaneously resets to factory settings every few days

Once or twice a week I find that my RT-AC87U has reset itself to factory settings, meaning I have to go through the setup process every time this happens. I have tried the latest ASUS firmware as well as the latest wrt-merlin firmware - the resets happen with either firmware. I use the default setting for everything except the SSID names and passwords. I have a Huawei LTE USB modem plugged into the USB 2.0 port of my router which provides WAN access.

Has anybody else experienced something similar. Do you have any suggestions for diagnosing the root-cause and fixing it?

That sounds like a faulty router, I would send that off for replacement, or go to the store and replace it there.
