RT-AC88U Reboots into Rescue Mode

After getting my router back from Asus's repair facility for the second time last night, I tried to install the latest Merlin version in place of the stock firmware that the replacement unit came with. I tried doing the upgrade via rescue mode, but I couldn't get the the CFE miniWeb server to load properly. It would be available, and then drop off. I was able to get around this by using the tftp2 flash utility. After using it, Merlin was installed and I was welcomed with the setup screen for the 88U, so I performed the initial setup, and went to reboot it, and for some reason, it went in to recovery mode. It seems that the router is doing some sort of loop of trying to start, entering rescue mode, then getting out of it and attempting to start again. What is going on, and how do I fix it? :(

Edit: I just tried installing the latter stock firmware using the TFTP program, and doing so got the router to boot, but it wasn't upgraded. It still had the Merlin build on it. Since this truck seems to allow me to boot, I will try upgrading through the WebUI.

In case anyone else is experiencing the issue, I was able to resolve it by reflashing the latest Merlin after booting to the WebUI using the trick I described above.
