Hi guys,

I don't know what this is, but it started suddenly with one of the betas in the past.. It doesn't appear directly after a reboot or a flash, but at different times after running the router for some days.. Its flooding the logs with that message and only a reboot fixes it I have the feeling.. Any hints about that problem..?

Problem with the Realtek switch that handles ports 5 through 8. Unplug the power from the router for a few seconds then plug it back in to completely reset the controler.

I have done this quite often, unfortunately the problem reoccurs after a while :( So I think this is a hardware problem..? Would be very sad after I no longer have a warranty on the device..

Yes, unless you have a buggy device plugged into one of these ports, and that devices is causing the switch to crash.

Actually, I don't use these ports, so this possibility is unfortunately excluded.. :D Would be the AX88U a good upgrade in your opinion? ;)

I've never used these ports (5 through 8) with my AC88u since December 2016, the date I bought my AC88u. Last week I saw these a couple times with 314.18 but since I still don't use Realtek ports I just ignored. Running 314.19beta 1 for 3 days and I didn't see these logs.

I have the feeling that this also started with 314.18, still there with 314.19 beta 1.. :( But same here, I didn't use that ports since I bought the router :D

I came here after seeing the same error on my device, I only recently purchased mine and it is on the default manufacture firmware. It causes a minor inconvenience as the TV has a pop up box advising it has lost a connection and then again when it is working again.

Just thought I would add something here due to the error being seen in the default firmware, I will be raising a case with Asus support.

It's not a firmware bug, it's a hardware issue. The log is simply telling you the Realtek switch is no longer responding. Power cycle the router to reset it, that fixes it in most cases.

I just observed a number of Realtek log entries in my AC88U log this morning after upgrading from 384.19 to 386.1 beta 1 -- I have never encountered this before. I am also not using ports 5 through 8. (EDIT: I was using port 5, so that last comment was incorrect. I just power cycled the RT-AC88U and I no longer have anything plugged into ports 5, 6, 7, or 8.)

@RMerlin I will power cycle the AC88U and keep an eye on the log.

I mostly see messages with err=-1:
rtk_port_linkStatus_get() fail, err: -1

But there are a few entires with err=14 and one entry with err=10

I wonder if Asus has used the Realtek RTL8365MB in a number of router models or just the RT-AC88U.
