I just took the plunge and upgraded my rt-ac3200
to a AC88U
hi , strange wording but i assume you purchased an rt-ac88u and would like to know if there are any special settings or features
i would suggest you first test the 88u with just about everything at default apart from the internet connection and wifi security etc and see how its stability and performance are , as its should pretty much be the best thing you have had since they invented sliced toast
once your satisfied the base performance is great or otherwise then you can start playing with the other features like the gaming accelerator etc that your not used to , otherwise most of the features are exactly the same as the previous rt-ac3200
My mistake ,I didn't put in the correct section and If I had I would have answered my own questions
I ordered it but haven't actually received it yet.
I'm mostly interested in the link aggregation feature as I am going to be getting a newer NAS soon
thank you
the 88u doesnt support the full link aggregation standard but does work under load sharing quite well , i have a synology ds 415+ that works with the 88u and when setup allows 2 computres to download close to 100MB/s over ethernet , note you can only download at 100MB/s to any one comp due to the ethernet and ports being 100MB/s max
just fyi the netgear r8500 and above do work with the full dynamic link aggregation standard
"RT-AC88U features Link Aggregation, which combines two teaming LAN ports (the 1st and 2nd port) into one superfast wired connection for up to 2 Gbps using two Gigabit Ethernet cables5. With Link Aggregation enabled on your NAS, clients can unlock unprecedented transfer speeds."
confused
asus claim it does link aggregation but in my testing it did not do the full standard and the nas unit would only work in load balancing mode
sure the nas can give out 2ooMb/s as opposed to 100MB/s normally but any device connected to the asus can only connect to 1 giga ethernet port and thus is still limited to 100MB/s throughput
so the nas is capable of 200MB/s - and thus lets say 2 comps are connected to the asus and both where downloading at max speeds , this would mean they would get about 100MB/s each
whereas if the nas was connected by 1 ethernet lead and non link aggregated it could only supply 100MB/s and those 2 comps would only get 50Mb/s each
with the way the asus is setup there is no way to get 200Mb/s to any one client even if it had 2 ethernet cards
