New Around Here
Added a new second USB drive to my router today, plugged in a 2 TB ssd drive on the USB 3.0 port, (I already had a 2 TB IDE drive connected to the USB 2.0 port) for some reason it appears that both ports crashed when I connected and from what I can tell there is no USB power on either port any longer. Both hard drives work fine when connected to other equipment. I'm at a loss on what to do to be able to connect then once again, any pointers would be appreciated.

IDE hard drives need more power than a USB 2 socket is designed to provide, even it's a 2.5" drive. So unless you're using a separate power supply for it it's quite possible than having both drives attached has exceeded to power capabilities of the router's USB ports.

Thanks for the quick response, The IDE had been attached for some time, it has it's own separate power supply, the SSD drive does needs USB power to operate. For some reason there is no communication whatsoever on either port, Is there a way to reset them?

You can't software reset the USB ports. What happens if you remove both drives and power off/on the router. Then plug just the original drive back in the way it was after it's booted up?

I should have been more thorough in my first post, I did exactly that, the router still does not see the drive after the restart, I also tried another drive with the same results. I also toggled the USB 2.0/3.0 setting under Administration/System in the hope that it might help, it did not. Thinking I might have to try a full reset of the router but I've a feeling this is sadly a hardware issue.

It does indeed sound like a hardware failure. If you go to Network Map do both USB ports still appear there?

Yes they are still there, they are not clickable. Once there is less traffic on the network I will do a reset, just to see. If that doesn't bring them back and as I am running 4 routers in an AiMesh system, I will try to attach the drives to one of the other nodes to see if I can get that working. Hopefully that doesn't fry their USB ports.

No solution after a factory reset. Have opened a case # with Asus, hopefully they can repair it. Thanks for your help.
