RT-AX86U-Pro / RT-AX88U-Pro Speedtest question

If you have:
  1. RT-AX86U-Pro or RT-AX88U-Pro
  2. Symmetrical 2g/2g or higher internet plan
  3. Connected to the 2.5gb WAN port
  4. Running stock
Have you seen the built in Ookla Speedtest max out the provisioned DL & UL speeds, up to the physical limit if higher then 2.5gb?

Thanks!

As a general note for those unaware. The router's built in Ookla speed test has been known not to properly report the WAN/broadband speeds. Lots of past discussion about it. The general recommendation by more than a few here is to test using the https://www.speedtest.net/ site from a computer wired direct to the router. Apparently the router uses a single processor core (or is CPU limited) for it's built in Ookla speed test which may cause misreporting issues with faster speeds.

For example:

This may happen on vanilla Asuswrt in default configuration with no Trend Micro features enabled. Depending on what is enabled after it will affect the built-in speed test and WAN-LAN throughput in general. If you enable Traditional QoS or Bandwidth Limiter on any network for example your router won't be able to process >300Mbps WAN-LAN. If you enable AiProtection, Adaptive QoS, Parental Controls, Web History, Traffic Analyzer, etc. Trend Micro bwdpi engine related features the speed test and throughput will be affected as well. The performance of home routers is "up to" as best case scenario. They are power optimized devices with passive cooling and rely heavily on NAT acceleration methods bypassing the CPU.

I have an AX88 Pro and Xfinity 2 Gig service. Running the speed test on the router I routinely see download speeds of 2.2 gigs and upload of 80 Mbps.

Thank you all for the replies!

The 2.5gb WAN port on my RT-AX86U-Pro is the only one i currently have, everything else is still gigabit. So The built in speed test is the only thing that will push past ~940mb.

I thought my 940m plan's provision was ~980m, as that's what the built in speed test would usually be around, though sometimes going to 1,035m/977m.

But if I run two separate wired speedtests at the same time from separate devices to try and saturate the line. According to the Traffic Monitor it will hit a sustained 130MB / 130MB, so 1,040m / 1,040m.

I just don't know if that is totally accurate.

I have the impression that Traffic Monitor isn't very precise/accurate. SpeedTest.net also 👿

It's a bloatware in firmware. Other manufacturers had speed test in GUI and ASUS decided to follow.

Are you referring to the Ookla Speedtest or the accuracy of the real-time Traffic Monitor?

The Speed Test. The Traffic Analyzer and Monitor at least provide some more useful information.
