RT-AX86U_PRO_3006_102.5 issues

Evening all,

I'm trying to sort out bufferbloat / packet loss issues with the current merlin release, what I'm finding out is that it is timing out every so often. I have enabled ICMP requests but still am having issues. I'm not very technical so would like some help as to what is causing this issue. I have attached a file so you can all see.

Cheers

According to that chart your router was offline for the last 19 hours. Prior to that it was online for two hours and looked fine with no appreciable packet loss.

See the thing is the router wasn't offline at all which is very strange as it's very intermittent
Then I'd say that your ISP is having issues and/or the IP address you're monitoring has changed.

What does today's chart look like?

Log into the router and check the WAN IP address shown at the top of the Network Map page is the same as the one you're monitoring.

I'm currently with zen and they insist for their background tests (smokeping) at the moment I use the Fritzbox 7530 which is a pile of poop but that seems to be dropping packets all over the place. Zen gave me a fixed IP address so that doesn't change at all. It is a PPPoE set up.

If this is happening with both your RT-AX86U_PRO and the Fritzbox then that suggests this is nothing to do with Merlin's firmware.

I've been pinging your IP address for the last 8 minutes and get 2% packet loss spaced at regular intervals. When there is no packet loss the connection is good with low latency.

Would you suggest this is an ISP issue then? I've got an open ticket with zen for the last 2 weeks and they keep denying anything is wrong.

I don't have one at the moment as zen phoned me up this morning asking me to take it down as i was running thinkbroadband BQM at the same time as their smokeping tests. If possible could you also stop pining my IP if you haven't already. Apparently it may interrupt with their smokeping tests. I do have one with the Fritzbox I can post up on here that was completed yesterday or day before.

Fritzbox Test BQM
Thanks. That looks the same as what I was seeing. Packets being dropped on a regular period, but otherwise it looking good.

Show that to zen (now that you're using their Fritzbox) and ask them if they think that is acceptable.

P.S. I was only pinging you for those 8 minutes.

EDIT: Perhaps this regular packet loss is from their testing.

I have already shown them this but they threw it out as I was running the test at the same time as they was running their smokeping tests. It causes lots of buffers when gaming and watching videos online. It certainly is not acceptable in my eyes not for a 500/70 package with only me on the internet. It is disgraceful imo. This was similar when I ran tests before opening a ticket with zen. I was personally monitoring packet loss my end so I wouldn't look like an idiot before contacting them.

I think all you can do at the moment is wait until they complete their tests. When that happens restart your monitoring and see what it looks like without their smokeping running.
