RT-AX88U clean installation guide

Hi,

I'm on a very old Merlin version on my Asus RT-AX88U (386.3_2) and I'd like to upgrade to the latest one (3004_388.8_2).

Could someone please direct me to a guide for a clean installation?

You don't need a guide. Flash the new firmware, reset the router to defaults, reconfigure manually, done.

Pressing the Reset button resets the firmware to default values, WPS hard reset does the same plus clears JFFS stored data. Reset in GUI = Reset button, Reset + Initialize in GUI = WPS hard reset. Whatever is easier for you. I would upgrade the firmware on top of the existing one and see if everything works properly without reset first. You can always reset the router and start over in case there is an issue. Entirely your choice.
